Mangroves: “Superhero” Ecosystems
نویسندگان
چکیده
Mangroves are woody trees that can live on the land or in sea, and they found tropical subtropical coastal regions. Because mangroves along land-ocean boundary, unique plants provide several benefits to nature humans. For example, refuge food for organisms, hurricane protection, water filtration; also promote release of oxygen into atmosphere uptake trapping carbon dioxide, which helps fight against climate change. To understand mangrove ecosystems, it is important consider role microorganisms there. Although ecosystems important, face threats, including deforestation development. Therefore, understanding communicating about essential conserving goods services provide.

How to become a superhero
We analyze a collaboration network based on the Marvel Universe comic books. First, we consider the system as a binary network, where two characters are connected if they appear in the same publication. The analysis of degree correlations reveals that, in contrast to most real social networks, the Marvel Universe presents a disassortative mixing on the degree. Then, we use a weight measure to s...
متن کاملMadagascar's Mangroves: Quantifying Nation-Wide and Ecosystem Specific Dynamics, and Detailed Contemporary Mapping of Distinct Ecosystems
Mangrove ecosystems help mitigate climate change, are highly biodiverse, and provide critical goods and services to coastal communities. Despite their importance, anthropogenic activities are rapidly degrading and deforesting mangroves world-wide. Madagascar contains 2% of the world’s mangroves, many of which have undergone or are starting to exhibit signs of widespread degradation and deforest...

Using pop icons in the science classroom represents a creative way to engage often-distracted students in a relevant and, perhaps more importantly, fun way. When the pop icon is as universally known as Captain America, the pedagogical stage is set. However, when the movies can also be employed to link dramatic references to the science concepts at hand, we may have a very powerful tool by which...
متن کاملSalt balance in mangroves.
The tidal zone of tropical seas is frequently lined with great mangrove forests, the dominating species of which belong to such genera as Rhizophora, Bruguiera, Sonneratia, and Avicennia. The outstanding feature of these plants is their adaptation to growing in seawater, and even though all do well in river estuaries they seldom penetrate inland beyond the direct action of ocean tides. A questi...
متن کاملHow Mangroves Salinize the Soil How Mangroves Salinize the Soil
A transient one-dimensional model of the vertical movement of water and salt in the mangrove root zone is investigated. This is an extension of a previous steady state model which assumed that the ability of the mangrove roots to take up water is uniformly distributed throughout the soil and that the root water uptake is reduced if there is nonzero salt concentration around the roots. We show h...
